Road of Life Executive Director Matt Youngner wrote a Letter to the
Editor that appeared in the June 28, 2005, edition of the Cleveland
Plain Dealer. Co-authored with Capital University’s Tobacco Public
Policy Center Executive Director Micah Berman, the letter criticized
the decision by Ohio’s Legislature to redirect $216 million intended
for the Tobacco Use Prevention and Control Foundation and urged
Governor Taft to use his line-item veto to remedy the situation.
The fall is rapidly approaching and so is the second annual Race for
Hope, Road of Life’s 5K run/walk. Race for Hope will be held this year
at Grigg’s Reservoir in Columbus on Sunday, October 9. On-line
registration is now available.
On Sunday, May 22, the 28th annual Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon &
10K was held in downtown Cleveland. For the very first time, the race
offered separate divisions for walkers in the full and half marathons.
Road of Life was incredibly proud to be the official charity of these
walking divisions. Over 200 walkers participated in the event, a
tremendous amount for a first-time race, and both Road of Life and the
Cleveland Marathon look forward to growing this number in the coming
years. By popular demand, walking divisions for the 10K will be offered
next year. Special thanks to Jack and Ralph Staff from the Cleveland
Marathon for their help this year and please look for updates on the
2006 Marathon.
Road of Life is looking for educators from throughout Ohio to
participate in focus groups and an advisory board associated with our
health intervention curriculum. Teachers from all grade levels and
types of schools are needed and your in-put will be critical to the
shape and direction of our programming. Anyone interested should
contact Dir. Education and Prevention Chandra Geiser at geiser@roadoflife.org.
