Evaluate the Road of Life Curriculum Online!
Version 3.0 of the Road of Life curriculum can now be evaluated online at http://www.roadoflife.org/3.0processevaluation.html. The information provided will be reviewed quarterly and taken into consideration when new versions of the curriculum are produced.

The process evaluation asks those who have taught or read the curriculum to evaluate the lessons that they have used. Users are asked to rate the curriculum as a whole, and individual lessons on a scale from 1-5. The evaluation also allows for comments and explanations of the ratings.

“Process evaluation is not only beneficial but essential because the feedback given during the process improves the quality of the program overall,” said Shane Hankins, Executive Director.

Volunteer Spotlight: Paula Dix
“Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.”—Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

At Road of Life, we recognize that our organization would not be where it is today without the help of many dedicated volunteers who have served us over the years. To honor and thank those who have committed time to our mission, our newsletter will focus on the efforts of one volunteer every month. This month, we have chosen Paula “Polly” Dix who volunteers with our Communications Department.

Polly Dix certainly is great, and she has contributed much to Road of Life. Ms. Dix brings a wealth of experience in public relations to the organization. She has taught news-writing and public relations at The Ohio State University, and most recently, she taught news-writing at Capital University. Though she has spent much time in academia, she has done tremendous work in public relations in other settings.

Ms. Dix began her career as the public relations assistant at the Columbus Museum of Art. She also held positions with Columbus public relations agencies and managed several public relations projects for the State of Ohio.

As a valued volunteer at Road of Life, Ms. Dix has played an active role in the planning of Road of Life’s Communication and Outreach Plan. She has generously given of her time to help the organization formulate a valid plan that will not only drive educators and school officials toward Road of Life’s health education solutions but also encourage donors to invest in quality health education for all children.

“Helping Road of Life with its communication plan is similar not only to not-for-profit clients I had but also to courses that I taught at Ohio State,” says Dix.

Ms. Dix also volunteers at Upper Arlington Library’s English Conversation Classes, and the English Immersion program at Desert Mountain High School in Scottsdale, Arizona. In her free time, she enjoys reading, knitting, and playing golf.

When asked about why she enjoys volunteering at Road of Life Dix responded: “The mission is important and I like in some small way helping you achieve your goals.”

COMING SOON: Professional Development Series
The Road of Life Professional Development Series is in it's final stages of completion. The first course in the series, "Introduction to Road of Life" is designed to teach educators how to use our curriculum while earning contact hours for CEUs. The series will be launched in the beginning of April!

Kids Health Hint of the Month:
Use a car analogy to explain to your kids the importance of eating breakfast.

Explain that your body is like the car. Even though you are not moving much while you sleep, your “engines” --your heart, lungs, brain, and other organs--are still working and doing their jobs throughout the night. They use up energy, so in the morning, you have less energy in your body than you did when you went to sleep. You need to “re-fuel” your body and “fill your energy tank” by eating food when you wake up. Eating a healthy breakfast "re-fuels your tank" and gives you energy to start the day!

This month's health hint was taken from Lesson 19: The Importance of Breakfast
