ROL would like to thank the Columbus
City Council Member Charleta Tavares and the City of
Columbus for their generous monetary support for the development and
implementation of the ROL After School Program.
2007, ROL received the grant in the amount of $50,000. These funds were
used to develop and implement ROL’s After School Curriculum Version 1.0. It
also allowed ROL to provide training and professional development services for
employees of these programs, to increase their knowledge of health education
and the use of ROL’s program materials. The After School Curriculum was piloted
at target sites in Columbus, and ROL has already served over 900 children
there. ROL has made the curriculum available on a nationwide basis, and it has
been utilized in seven states to serve over 1,500 additional children in seven
states.
“It was my honor to sponsor the City of Columbus’ grant to Road of Life,” said
Councilmember Charleta B. Tavares. “Providing critical money to an organization
that works so hard to provide our youth with the health tips, tools, and
knowledge to help them live a long, cancer-free life is an important investment
to our city’s future.”
Ms. Tavares and the City of Columbus have played a tremendous role in the
expansion of ROL. Ms. Tavares is one of the biggest supporters for the
organization and we appreciate all that she has done. Shane Hankins, Executive
Director of ROL said, “Ms. Tavares and the City of Columbus are champions for
children and we sincerely appreciate their support. Their efforts are having a
profound impact on children not only in Columbus but also throughout Ohio and
the nation. “
ROL has leveraged a variety of funding sources that have had direct impact on
the organization’s work in Columbus. This includes a $40,000 grant from the
Ohio Governor’s Office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives and a $50,000
grant from the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services. The receipt of
these funds was a direct result of the lead investment by the City of Columbus.
