Third Party Evaluation Proves ROL Program is Effective |

As part of Road of Life’s dedication to excellence, it designed and
conducted an evaluation to capture the impact of our Classroom Curriculum. This
evaluation process involves administering a 70 question pre- and post- test.
Children take a pre-test before any ROL curriculum is taught and take
the same test after the curriculum has been completed. The questions are
specific to the Road of Life curricula and demonstrate the knowledge and
beliefs that the children learned concerning general health, nutrition,
physical activity, and tobacco use awareness. The behavioral questions are
designed to analyze proper nutritional intake, physical activity, and tobacco
use.
ROL recently had this data analyzed by a third party and is pleased to share
the results. Overall, the evaluation showed a statistically significant
improvement in a range of questions from all three core areas: knowledge,
beliefs, and behavior. Over 51% of both the knowledge and belief section
questions demonstrated statistically significant improvement in student responses
between the pre- and post-test survey. In addition, 40% of the behavior section
questions showed statistically significant improvement in student responses.
Further analysis showed improvements on questions about nutrition, including
caffeine dehydration, food labels, and serving sizes. Students also showed an
increased knowledge in available locations to be physically active, high-energy
activities, and stretching. Students showed statistically increased knowledge
of the dangers of tobacco on questions related to the short term consequences
of smoking and various tobacco products.
In an effort to continuously improve the quality of ROL’s programs, this
information will help determine the best way to augment the Classroom
Curriculum.
“This is very exciting news, and proves the effectiveness of our program,”
stated Executive Director Shane Hankins. “It is the culmination of years of
hard work by the staff and volunteers of ROL. We hope this will encourage more
schools to adopt and use our proven curriculum.”
