Executive Director speaks at OACAA Conference
COLUMBUS, OHIO – February 12, 2007 - Executive
Director Shane Hankins presented
“Keeping Kids Healthy for Life: The Road of Life Curriculum” at the Ohio
Association of Community Action Agencies Annual Winter Conference in early
February.
The conference brought together Community Action Agencies of
Ohio to
improve services, share resources and best practices, and learn how to work
with the new administration on legislative issues that will help the
populations served by these agencies.
Road of Life was able to share information about our free
and low cost health education curriculum with the conference attendees. Road of
Life not only has an innovative curriculum for classrooms, but the organization
is also developing versions of the curriculum for after-school and summer camp
programs. These versions will emphasize physical activity and are designed for
non academic settings. Both of these versions of the curriculum will be
available in the spring of 2007.
Road of Life was invited to speak at this conference because
of its dedication to serving at-risk and impoverished youth. The Community Action Agencies in Ohio often have direct
contact with the audience Road of Life serves. Making Road of Life’s resources
available to Community Action Agencies will allow more programming to reach
at-risk youth. Community action professionals around the state expressed strong
interest in incorporating Road of Life’s curriculum into their programs.
“This is a very exciting opportunity. This is the beginning
of a strong relationship between Road of Life and Community Action Agencies
throughout the state of Ohio,”
said Hankins.
