FINGERHUT
TO WALK IN OHIOANS' SHOES
Begins Historic 310-Mile Journey August 11
COLUMBUS,
Ohio - Eric Fingerhut, 45, Ohio's Democratic nominee to the U.S. Senate,
today announced plans for a historic walk across Ohio. Wednesday,
August 11, Fingerhut, who is challenging George Voinovich for his
U.S. Senate seat in November, embarks on a 310-mile journey, beginning
on the Ohio River in Cincinnati, and ending on the Lake Erie shore
in Cleveland.
"Ohio is moving in the wrong direction and it's going to take
hard work to turn things around," said Fingerhut. "I am
walking across the state to hear firsthand from Ohioans their concerns
about jobs, healthcare and the direction of our state."
"This is an opportunity to connect with voters and talk about
the issues that Ohioans face every single day," Fingerhut continued.
"This walk gives me a chance to do something that George Voinovich
rarely does, which is get out beyond the fundraisers and spend a day
walking in the shoes of ordinary Ohioans."
Fingerhut will be spending his days talking and listening to Ohio
families. The journey is a continuation of the grassroots campaign
Fingerhut has run for more than a year. He has built a base of more
than 5,000 contributors, due mainly to extensive traveling and campaigning
across the state.
"Ohio has been falling behind the rest of the nation for more
than a decade," said Fingerhut. "I am unbelievably excited
for this great opportunity to bring the election to the front doors
and front porches of Ohioans across the state."Fingerhut, who
was ranked one of the hardest working members of the Ohio legislature
(Columbus Monthly, December 2003), looks forward to demonstrating
his commitment to Ohio with his walk and earning the right to represent
Ohioans in Washington. "This is my chance to prove that I have
the energy and the ideas to make Ohio great again."
The campaign also announced the launch of a new website devoted to
the walk. The website www.walkohio.com goes live later this week,
and will serve as the central hub for statewide efforts organized
around the walk. Through the website, volunteers will be able join
and support Eric on his walk across Ohio. The idea to walk across
Ohio was inspired, in part, by Road of Life, a non-profit organization,
which supports cancer prevention for children.
