Road of Life Newsletter - Fall 2008

Our New & Improved Website

Welcome back! Here at Road of Life we have been undergoing some major improvements. As we indicated in our last newsletter, we have been busy making many changes to our organization in order to better meet the challenges ahead. By integrating modern communications technology into our existing programs, we will be better prepared to help kids and teachers nationwide.

The good news is that we’ve now successfully transitioned our Road of Life offices from a confining brick and mortar office to a more streamlined collaborative online environment, one that brings together dedicated educators, volunteers, donors and health professionals. Our new site is up and running and better than ever before. This means it’s easier for educators to find and use our programs and ultimately more healthy kids! Pretty cool.

If you haven’t visited us in a while, check it out!

Expanded and Organized Curriculum

Road of Life is pleased to offer a broader range of curriculum materials and information available to educators. We have reorganized the curriculum based on specific grades and learning environments and we now offer SEVEN different and unique comprehensive health curricula for FREE. These include:

·         Classroom 3-5 Grades (v 3.0)

·         After School 3-5 Grades (v. 1.0)

·         Summer Camp 3-5 Grades (v. 1.0)

·         Family Program 3-5 Grades (v. 1.0)

·         Health Careers 3-5 Grades (v. 1.0)

·         Classroom 6-8 Grades (v. 1.0)

·         Head Start Program Pre-K Grades (v. 1.0)

We are committed to helping as many children as we can so all of our curriculum materials are still available to download for FREE. In addition, we also offer printing services for bound teacher copies of the curriculum that are available for a small fee. Due to overwhelming demand, more versions are being printed all the time. We continue to work with health professionals and volunteers to fine-tune our programs and keep them up to date. Stay tuned in the future for more new ways in which we are improving our curriculum, including the use of online collaborative editing groups, with our educational partner Curriki If you’d like to volunteer to lead or participate one of our new online curriculum groups, please email us at: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. State Educational Standards

As part of our effort to offer new and useful health services for educators, we now have State Health Educational Standards for many states available through our website. Our continuing commitment is to make our programs as teacher-friendly as possible, and we have created a new section with many of the State Academic standards that teachers may need. As always, these standards are completely FREE, and we are working on adding more all the time. FOR DONORS

Road of Life’s “For Donors” section has been streamlined through a partnership with Groundspring.Org. It is now VERY easy to make a fast and secure donation online, without ever leaving the Road of Life site. If you haven’t made a donation to ROL this year we urge you to go online and donate a printed version of our curriculum to a teacher. $150 will pay for a whole classroom of healthier children.  If you didn’t know,  because of previous gifts EVERY SINGLE DOLLAR of your donation goes to pay for a printed version of a curriculum in a classroom.

How many classrooms can you help to teach kids about the importance of physical activity, good nutrition and avoiding tobacco to make this a healthier generation of kids?

3 Ways you Can Help Road of Life TODAY:
  1. Donate a printed version to a classroom in need. Every printed curriculum packet you donate goes to a classroom in need.  Visit our site to donate here.
  2. Tell an educator about our free resources by forwarding this email on to any teacher you know. Tell them to forward it to teachers they know, and so on. Help us reach our goal of 1 Million new kids by 2012.

  3. Post a link to our new Road of Life website on your blog, your organization’s website or your company’s philanthropy page. Links are the cornerstone of the internet; the more website traffic we can get, the more teachers will be able to find our free curriculum materials, and the more kids we will be able to help!
