Road of Life is proud to announce that the After School Program has been approved as a resource for the Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s Healthy Schools Program. Road of Life’s After School Program was found to be in alignment with one or more of the Healthy Schools Program Framework Criteria and consistent with American Heart Association standards for scientific validity and accuracy. Alliance for a Healthier Generation is a joint initiative between the American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation. They have come together to fight one of our nation’s foremost health problems – childhood obesity. The Alliance’s Healthy Schools Program provides real tools and solutions to help schools create healthier school environments by promoting nutrition and physical activity to students and staff.

Your school can join the movement to build healthier places for students to grow and learn. Any school – public, private or charter – can register online and gain access to our collection of resources at no cost. Here are a few things the Healthy Schools Program (HSP) has to offer enrolled schools:

• National recognition for their small victories and big successes.
• Customized support on creating a healthier school environment (through a liaison available by phone and email)
• Implementation support and tools that are robust and informative to help schools work towards creating a healthier school environment and achieving recognition.
• Networking opportunities with schools across the country on the quest for a healthier school.
• A resource database that includes great resources and grant opportunities that will help schools implement healthy changes to promote physical activity and healthy eating. The Road of Life After School Curriculum for Physical Activity and Health Education has recently been added to the Healthy Schools Program Resource Database.

The Alliance is having a positive impact on the places that can make a difference to a child’s health: homes, schools, restaurants, doctors’ offices, and the community. To ensure that future generations will not struggle with illnesses associated with poor food choices and lack of physical activity, the Alliance is taking preemptive measures against obesity focusing on its four key initiatives, the Healthy Schools Program, Food and Beverage Industry Outreach, Healthcare Industry Outreach, and Kids Movement. Road of Life shares the Alliance’s initiative of building a healthier generation of children and is excited to be a part of their innovative work.
