This month's Volunteer Spotlight is on Denise Zabawski, the CIO and VP of Information Services at Nationwide Children's Hospital, and a member of ROL's Board of Directors.
Zabawski is an I.T. professional with 20 years of experience in multiple industries and has implemented several multi-year, multi-million dollar IT projects, including electronic medical records. Her most recent experience is in strategic planning and development of sustainable systems and processes. Denise Zabawski heard of ROL via Groundwork Group, a community solutions center which helps match technology leaders with local non-profit organizations. As a technology leader for Nationwide Children's Hospital, Zabawski is very concerned about the rising cost of healthcare in the community. She believes prevention is the best way to influence the trend, especially because children are bombarded with many advertisements for junk food. She knows there is a critical need to get the right information to kids, since the best time to start good life-long habits is childhood. As a ROL Board Member, Zabawski has formed a technology committee to guide the long term direction of the technologies that support ROL's mission. She also looks for opportunities for corporate funding and for opportunities for Nationwide Children's Hospital and ROL to form partnerships. In addition to volunteering with ROL, Zabawski is a member of the Healthcare Information Management System Society (HIMSS) and a delegate of the Child Health Corporation of America CIO Forum. Her personal commitment to serving her community shines through her involvement as a block watch coordinator, a Pet Promise volunteer and foster home provider, service on the Stonewall Columbus Board of Trustees, and work with the Columbus AIDS Task Force. Zabawski is excited to see ROL expanding in all aspects, especially its five year goal to serve over one million kids. Zabawski does her part in staying healthy by taking spinning and swimming classes. Once the weather breaks, she looks forward to gardening with lots of spring vegetables. |
