The Olde Southside Community Partnership (OSSCP) is a 501 (c) 3 organization which has provided services for the south side of Columbus since 1994. The OSSCP is affiliated with ROL because they agreed to implement ROL’s After School Program into their Summer Program. They also conducted pre- and post-tests to the children. Using the program was very important to the OSSCP because ROL is one of the few organizations that address the serious health-related issues that many low-income children face in underserved communities, such as the south side of Columbus.

The OSSCP was organized to decrease criminal activity by increasing academic success, positive parenting, civic responsibility, and community involvement for low-income African American children. The vision of OSSCP is to empower youth, parents, and residents in the community to engage in productive civil activities. The mission of the organization is to promote and participate in a comprehensive plan to respond to the negative impacts of crime, low academic achievement, and impoverished health resources that have influenced the Marion Franklin area.

In 2006, OSSCP was among the fourteen new sponsors added to the nationally recognized Children’s Defense Fund Freedom School Movement, which offer educational, cultural, and social development opportunities for children K-12th (summer) and children K-8 (after school). The OSSCP, Marion Franklin Intergenerational Community Center, SAVVY, Inc., Kingdom Christian Center and the Wesley Church of Hope collaborated together for an innovative and exciting summer and after school program that taught 50 children. During this collaboration, the OSSCP agreed to implement and be the pilot program for Road of Life’s After School Program.

The OSSCP’s objectives are to provide quality, year-round youth programming to engage students, parents, and residents of the community. The goals of the OSSCP are to increase self-esteem and self-efficiency. This is the ideal situation where ROLs programs can be utilized as a resource by targeting children in the south side of Columbus. “We used the Road of Life health curriculum and the kids loved it,” stated Lisa Palmer, Executive Director of OSSCP. “They loved the curriculum, the activities and we loved the user friendly content. We can’t wait to use this curriculum during our after school program and next summer!”

We look forward to continuing our partnership with OSSCP, along with other organizations in the future!
