Road of Life founder Rob Emrich featured in Ohio Milestones during his Bicentennial Walk across the state to raise cancer awareness. One man's statewide journey on foot is raising cancer awareness step by step. Road of Life, a non-profit geared toward cancer research and prevention, hit the road September 4th in Cincinnati. Road of Life's Bicentennial Walk, Cancer Free Starting 2003, features organization founder and chairman Rob Emrich, who will walk from Cincinnati to Cleveland during a 17 day trek. Walking a combination of bicycle paths, state routes and city streets, Emrich will make his way northeast, passing through Columbus and Akron, before finishing the walk September 20 in Cleveland. The solo walk is scheduled to stop at prominent Ohio locations in 13 counties. Emrich compares the walk to battling the disease. "It's a long journey. The walk is a metaphor for fighting cancer. It's no easy task to take on," he said. In conjunction with the walk, Road of Life invites the public to participate in its mile dedication program. Each mile of the 312-mile route from Cincinnati to Cleveland will be dedicated to someone who has been affected by the disease. The free program is available at www.roadoflife.org. The Bicentennial Walk is an official event celebrating Ohio's 200th birthday. Road of Life is the operating arm of The Karen Rebecca Emrich Cancer Research Foundation, named in memory of Emrich's sister who died from cancer.
